National Ranking of Continuums of Care

The NHIP has completed a ranking of Homeless Continuums of Care using data from system performance measures submitted in 2017.  The rankings divide CoCs into Higher, Average and Lower Performers with separate rankings for each of the three (3) geographic divisions of Continuums.  The NHIP cautions against reading too much into the ranking since many measures are not comparable due to differences in program allocation and resources in each community.  The goal of the rankings is to provide a general look at CoCs that appear to be high performing and communities in need of improvement.  The NHIP welcomes any comments about improving the rankings.  …

New CoC Racial Equity Analysis Tool

HUD is pleased to announce the availability of the Continuum of Care (CoC) Racial Equity Analysis Tool to help communities understand who is accessing their homeless service system and what outcomes those families and individuals are realizing. Over the past year the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) has been highlighting promising practices from the field on how to better understand and address the overrepresentation of people of color among those experiencing homelessness. HMIS Capacity Building NOFA Deadline Reminder: Applications Due Thursday, January 31, 2019

There are 3 days remaining until the application submission deadline for the HMIS Capacity Building Project Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA). Unless you have received an extension from HUD, all applications must be submitted by Thursday, January 31, 2019 by 11:59:59 PM EST. Applications shall be submitted to Grants.gov unless a waiver has been issued allowing you to submit your application in paper form. Instructions for submitting your paper application will be contained in the waiver of electronic submission. As a reminder, “Received by Grants.gov” means the applicant received a confirmation of receipt and an application tracking number from Grants.gov. …

New Resources: HMIS Capacity Building NOFA

HUD is committed to ending homelessness and believes good, reliable information is essential to that effort. Some Continuums of Care (CoCs) have an Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) infrastructure that is nimble and has the capacity to adapt to ever-changing information needs. Others struggle and would benefit from funding dedicated to improving HMIS. In November 2018 HUD published an HMIS Capacity Building Project Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) to help communities improve their CoC’s HMIS. HUD Closed – HUD Exchange Website Operational

Due to the lapse in Congressional Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2019, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is closed. The HUD Exchange website is supported by a cooperative agreement funded under a prior appropriation. Current functions will remain operational but no new functions will be added during the lapse in appropriations. For more information, see HUD Contingency Plan for Possible Lapse in Appropriations.

APR Analyzer Tool Link Added

We are excited to announce that the amazing APR Analyzer Tool is now available through the HMISHelp.com website.  Just go to Resources>Tools>APR Analyzer and it will take you straight to the Homeless Services Network of Central Florida’s website, where the tool, created by Ritesh Pinto is hosted. The tool can be run off of any APR export for multiple projects or single projects.  It takes the APR file and creates a dashboard that shows useful visualizations based off of the data submitted.  It’s a fantastic tool and we are proud to be able to link to it directly through HMISHelp.com. …

FY 2019 VA Data Guide Added

One key resource used to ensure grantees are meeting program goals is the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Web-based software application. Per the SSVF Final Rule, grantees are required to enter data into this system. This data consists of information on the participants served and the types of supportive services provided by grantees. Grantees are then required to export client-level data for activities funded by the SSVF Program to the VA Repository on a monthly basis. New Resources for Addressing Homelessness in Rural Communities

Homelessness is a national crisis that impacts both urban and rural communities. Many national partners, including federal agencies, have been striving to better address homelessness in rural areas. This listserv highlights new resources and opportunities to help rural communities end homelessness. U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) recently launched the Rural Resource Guide to Help Communities Address Substance Use Disorder and Opioid Misuse.
